KOIF exhibition is this week

An exploration of hairstyle in the Indian Ocean : Reunion Island - Madagascar - Comoros
From 20 June to 10 July
** Opening on Tuesday 20 June from 7pm **
** Conversation with Emmanuel Souffrin (anthropologist) and walkabout with Soleïman Badat (artist) on Thursday 22 June from 6pm

Beyond the ordinary daily process, hairstyle reveals a language. It talks to us about ourselves. It talks to us about the others, about men and women, their age or social status; or their need to comply with, to show themselves as eccentric or anti-establishment.

KOIF is an artistic and scientific exchange project about hairstyle, in its historical, anthropological and aesthetic dimensions. KOIF is a project realised by Lerka (Reunion Island) and Vaïka (Madagascar) with the support of Institut de Civilisations - Musée d’Art et d’Archéologie de l'Université d'Antananarivo.

The artists are: Soleïman Badat, Emmanuel Colinet, Dominique Ficot, Kid Kréol et Boogie, Jean-Marc Lacaze, Mounir Allaoui.
Photo: Jean-Marc Lacaze.

Tartuffe and 'Molière' screening

Don't miss the last shows of Molière this week in Johannesburg! Tartuffe is at the Joburg Theatre (The Fringe) until the 25th of June! The multi awarded theatre director Sylvaine Strike and the Fortune Cookie Theatre Company are touring South Africa since early April with Molière’s chef d’oeuvre.
Exploring the way in which people are easily manipulated by symbols of power and honeyed words, Tartuffe is one of the French Shakespeare’s most famous work. A brilliant 100% South African cast (Craig Morris, Neil Mc Carthy, Vanessa Cooke, Khutjo Green ...) will give life to Molière’s goofy characters.
